OK so I am looking for a larger tank (probably around a 90 or 125) so I can have more options for tank mates with either 1-2 Oscars and stuff. I have another thread up and everybody says bigger is better. I am not doing anything yet (I may be a NOOb but I am not dumb), but I am doing some research. I know that generally a used tank (a year old or more) goes for $1/gallon, but all of the larger tanks that I am coming across come complete with hoods and a stand. What do you guys think would be a fair price for say... a 125 with 2 fluorescent hoods and an oak/pine/some kinda wood stand?

Pricing for used tanks seem to be largely regional driven. In SoCal for example, you could probably get a used 125, hood, light and stand for $200. Here in the Midwest, $250-$350 is more likely. Not sure in your area, but I guess it to be about the same.

There are always the Craigslist bargains you hear about but always seem to miss out on lol. Filtration and heating will be a huge consideration and can cost nearly as much as your tank if it doesn't come with it. I would rather be patient and find a complete set up with quality filtration and heating for $400 than rush into a $200 bargain. Just be sure to look over everything very close when dealing with used.

Good luck to you!!

Thanks! Yeah it seems to be most of the 125's with Hood, Light and Stand are about $300-450. I am going to be doing a canister with a minimum of 3x turnover and a HOB with as much of a turnover rate as I can find because I know that Oscars are dirty, dirty fishies haha. I know that canisters here run about $125-350 depending on how much turnover you want, and HOB's are anywhere from $25-75 respectively. I am still debating between Fluval and eHeim for my canister, does anybody have any suggestions on that as well?

Bioload is the waste produced by the fish. Either because they poop alot or their disgusting messy eaters. Oscars are both. So big time mechanical and biological filtration are required to keep Oscars. The Fluval Fx5 is among the top of the food chain when it comes to Canister filters. Their pricey at $200+ if you can find a deal. But worth it....

I will start saving up now haha - I know Fluval is pricey but they are worth the money.
