Is there anything to be done? It has been about 12 hours since he gobbled it up.I noticed it lying in the sand as I was feeding algae discs but then all the fish swarmed the algae disc and when they stopped the suction cup was gone.

Since then the fosochromis has not been acting right. He doesn't swim around much, and basically sits in one spot trying over and over to puke from the looks of it. It looks to me like someone dry heaving...he isn't having any success.

He is about 10-11" and the suction cup was maybe a little smaller than a bottle cap. I netted him out to try to see if I could "massage it up and out the mouth like some on here have done in the past but no luck, I cant feel it and looking down his mouth I cant see it either.

In fact netting him out only seems to have made matters worse as now he is breathing pretty hard and now has clamped fins.

I am so depressed this was a B-Day present and I have only had him for like two weeks.:(

Any tips would be appreciated.

Any pics?

If you get a hold of long tweezers, and if you can see the suction cup down his throat through the mouth you can try pulling it out.

Otherwise, short of surgically removing it and blasting the fish with meds the only thing you can do is wait and see what happens...

How do you know it is a suction cup though? And not just being stressed from being in the new tank?

And how is the aeration on the tank? Is the surface really really agitated?

Thanks bro but you didn't actually read my first post, likely just my title. I already stated how I knew it was a suction cup and that I could not see it whatsoever.

I can feel for you. I currently have a 9 inch fossie in with my filamnet barbs and he crammed a marble down his throat. I took him out also and this just stressed him. Because fossies like to dive down into sand or gravel with any danger signs. I just waited it out and on the third day he was able to cough it up. Remember fish breathe through gills so it is not like a human with a blocked air passage. if that helps. I know how long it takes for fossies to get that big and color up and to even find them so good luck. Actually my LFS has two nice males for $65 but we are in Michigan. Hopefully your will cough it up also.
