Just wondering whats better to use in a native tank, i had live plants in my tank with my bass but it clouded up the water and the bass just kept tearing them out and they ended up dieing, he's been find with fake plants, just wondering if real plants help with the water chemistry or anything

real plants remove nitrates from the water as they use them as they grow, in the same way as algae does (algae blooms are generally the result of a nitrate spike). they will also add oxygen to the water.

but real plants need to be cared for. clipping dead leaves, enough light to grow ect, and need to be re-planted if they get uprooted by your fish.

fake plants dont need anything other than a clean now and then if algae starts to grow on them. are avilable in many many varieties and last a whole lot longer with boisterous fish.

i suggest paying out for good plants though. i had ones like these in my tank.

ended up spending about £50 over a few weeks on about 3 large ones and a few smaller ones. but the tank looked great.

Bromie pretty much covered it. Live plants are great for your fish.

Not all plants need to be rooted in the gravel. Hornwort, elodea, and myriophyllum do fine drifting, as do all the floating plants like duckweed, frogbit, red root floater, salvinia, etc.

It would be great if you could make plants thrive, or even survive which i cant, but the times i have had even minor success, ive noticed obvious better water quality, and happier fish. But i am doomed to plastic plants.
