This the festae red terror the dot is in the upper part of the tail closer to he body and by the head it has a Y shape with the bars where the false does not if you look where I am saying you can tell the difference right away I hope these pics help

This is why common names are awful. I guess LFS wouldn't sell many fish if they didn't have a common name, though.

thanks alot guys... i mean i get how at quick glance you could get them mixed up .. my issue i suppose is that this is gonna be sight unseen because were a couple of hours apart, he says red terrors but i mean i cant count how many times i have had the red devil vs midas debacle.

the water is so muddy with common vs scientific names in addition to that add human greed and uneducated retailers and the lines between real and bogus grow even closer..

guess we will wait and see,
let go hypothetical if these terrors of his turn out to be boo boo are they even decent fish to keep , can they hybridize with any other sa/ca cichlids?
look at the mess with the flowerhorns and all these red texas's ....

alrighty well i googled it and they can and do often cross with rd's but it aint helping in the looks dept...
any others that you guys can think of that will make a potentially boo boo red terror an interesting hybrid project

i seriouslly hope they are true terrors, man there are some sweet ones out there

Buy from sellers who advertise their stock as Festae, not Red Terrors. There many people on this forum with breeding pairs and most are willing to ship. Post a WTB ad in the marketplace then compare the breeding stocks for the ones that suits your taste. And ask for video. Pictures don't do them justice.

This will forever be a topic, I guess we all have to pay our dues.........................................

It was a $60 lesson for me........................
