Hey guys Im new to MFK so go easy on me.
I was recently at my lfs and in the back corner in a 10ish gallon with a bunch of mollies I saw this cat that looked pretty beat up. He's about 5" long. The tag read "False tigrinus". I asked about him and the lady who works there knew nothing about him except he's been in that tank for a few months. His tail fin is a little bent and one of his "streamers" has a knot in it. I felt bad for him so I picked him up. Iv got him in a 250g grow out tank rn. I fully expect him to get big. But just how big? Does anyone know anything about him. Help would be much appreciated. I'll attach some pics of him in the store as well as him now. 1504379419824-502738491.jpg

2' maybe a little bigger with good genes. Search juruense

2' is doing well, 15 to 18" is likely with a bad start. Looks Jurense to me, do not over feed it...meal then wait for bump to go before more food. Good clean water with weekly water changes and lots of water movement at the surface to make sure lots of oxygen in the water.

They mainly eat when things are close to their face, try to get whole foods (whole or chppped whole fish) in there and feed a variety, not just one food.

Those mollies will go as it gets bigger and watch that the sucker mouth doesn't rasp on its slime coat, firs signs get them apart.

Thanks for the replies guys. He's in a bare bottom rn. What would you guys recommend for substrate? Sand, gravel or keep it bare for ease of cleaning? What about decor? Iv read fast moving rocky rivers is where he's from.

These kind of cats like to perch on decor/rocks and face toward the current. So would provide decor and sand would be my preference.

Will take about 2 years to get to 18 inches and slow after that.

Very nice juruense.
