So I built a canopy for my 75g tank about a month ago. Ffor the first 2 weeks I kept the lid closed, I started to notice that the top of the canopy which is the lid started to bow and it had water on the inside of it. Since then i have just kept the lid open but im looking to get it fixed now. There is only about a 2in opening so the air can go threw either side of the 2 powerfilters. So I know that I need to put some fans in the canopy.
Should I get 2 fans with one blowing in and one blowing out???
I was just thinking about getting some of these http://www.thatpetplace.com/pet/group/10944/product.web
If you guys or girls have any better ideas please let me know.

i'm not totally sure i understand your question, but my first question is: Do you have a glass cover on top of your tank or are you running it open topped, with just a newly-made wooden canopy? fans are designed to cool down a lighting system that generates much heat. it sounds like you're wanting to use fans to reduce humidity or moisture from building up on your wooden canopy. am i correct?

yes you are correct about me wanting to use the fans to reduce humidity or moisture from building up on your wooden canopy. There is no glass on the canopy its all wood.

you need a glass top to keep moisture in your tank.i'm talking about a glass top that sits flush on your tank's top. it has doors that open. what kind of lighting do you have? fans are made to keep the temperature down. some lights get hot. i have a coralife light that sits on two legs and it's elevated over my tank top. they are designed for t5 bulbs and mine even has lunar lights. they do generate more heat than a regular flourescent bulb and light fixture. i think you need a glass top to keep moisture from making contact with your wood canopy.

do you understand that the link that i sent you is for a glass top/canopy? it's designed to keep water in and away from lighting fixtures and wood canopies. the idea is to prevent water from making contact with electricity and wood. wood and water means wharped wood and you understand that water and electricity means trouble.

yes i know what you mean. i do have a piece of glass that covers the light but it does not cover the whole top of the tank. the light that im using is a double 48in shop light. im not sure what size bulbs. they are the usual size that comes with all new complete tank set ups. also if i to cover the top of the tank with all glass then the rest of the area will heat up above the glass, then i will need to put a fan in that. would it work if i put 1 fan in the canopy that blows out to remove the moisture. I will post pics of what i have tomorrow night

Is your canopy totally enclosed? Most of them are open at the back for this very reason. Is the wood bare on the inside? You should cover it with something water resistant.

I have a DIY canopy with a 4 ft. light inside. The back is open, and the inside is coated with a waterproofing primer and polyurethane, and I have tight-fitting glass tops. Moisture and overheating inside have never been an issue.

Also, if you do decide to install fans, the ones you linked to cost $20 because they're called aquarium lighting fans. When the identical fan is sold as a pc cooling fan, it's closer to $5.

yeah definitely go with the pc fans and rewire them with electrical plugs. Thats what i did in my SW tank it worked great.
