I have reasearched about Fancy Goldfish and a lot of articles say they are likely to catch ich, swim bladder, etc...

I don't have goldfish yet, I'm going to buy medicine from the LFS tommorow so I always have some in emergencies.

What are brands of medicine I should buy from PetsMart?

Maracyn and table salt should be sufficient. Yes, ich are frequent occurrences especially when the environment is cold. Quarantine your new fish first for 3-4 weeks before introducing to the main tank. Ich can only be introduced in your main tank by introduction of unquarantined specimens.

As far as swim bladder, try to use sinking foods to avoid this issue. Most often, this issue is very difficult to rectify as it involves damaged internal organs resulting from the floating foods wherein the fish ingest the air as it eats on the surface.

Fish get sick when they're really stressed out. Does this apply to goldfish?

What if I don't stress the goldfish out at all? Will it still get sick? ;)

All Goldfish need the majority of their diet to be plant material aka 'veggies'. Peas, zuchinni, live plants, algae, spirilina, etc. If you can keep 75% of their diet plant material it alleviates things like bloat, constipation, swim bladder issues and the like. I don't think they're any more 'prone' to ich than any fish. Ich doesn't care if the fish are genetically altered or not.

Goldfish are just like other living things. They'd still obviously get sick and stressed.;)

Any fish owner should have Prime or amquel around for an amonnia spike. Also, fancy goldfish don't "catch" swimbladder problems. They are almost always caused by improper feeding that leads to constipation and then an infection. Your best bet is to feed a sinking vegetable based food, I use Hikari Algae wafers. and if they get a swim bladder problem your best option is to add some salt to the water and fast the fish for 7-10 days.
and for all goldfish, remember that they poop, alot, so a well cycled tank is a must
