Not sure what happened, maybe he over ate but my largest Bala shark (Gandalf) Died today at 7 inches.
It just happend so I haven't had time to check the params, but I don't think thats the issue. He was really swollen and bloated looking, he was fine this morning and this evening. I went to bed and got up like 1 or 2 hours later and he was floating.
Here is the events of the day. I gravel vacced, and then had to go to bible study, this left the sump at dangerously low levels, but was fine for 2 hours. So I went to bible study came back 2 hours later, everyone is still fine, sump is low and sucking in air but running. I was getting ready to complete the water change but realized I was out of prime; my dog at it.
So I was now stuck with a 85% empty sump (55G) and no prime, plus I had to get some sleep it was 7pm and I have to be at work at 11pm. So I figured I could add just enough tap water to get the sump over night until I could pick up some prime. The tank is 220 and the sump is 55 for total of say 260G of water; I added about 20 gallons of untreated heated tap water; just bellow 10%.
He was dead about 2 - 3 hours after. while it could have been the water change I am some what doubtful all the other fish are fine, even my baby 1" EBJD. I figure if it was the chlorimines then the EBJD would have been the first to go.
Well I netted him out and changed the filter return line to give more surface agitation just in case. Water was at 76 degrees.
Now I am down to 2 Bala sharks, I don't know if I should try and get another one or not. I fear he might be to small since the other two are 6 - 7 inches. I am thinking about trying to just trade them in for a flowerhorn.
