Hello,

So my local petshop said farlowella catfish make good algae eaters like plecos do. Did warn me they get up to a foot long.

Do they compare well to plecos? Eat from glass, plants and old growth?

Do they need driftwood and hiding places?

(posted in catfish too)

They will eat algae but due to their size don't expect a clean tank in a hurry.

I doubt they will reach 12 inches(not counting the tail).

Hiding spots and driftwood always helps

Ive never heard of any getting up to a foot in length, they are long and thin but maybe at most 6inch. Ive had 2 total before, one died because of stress i think, and the other one jumped out so make sure that you have you top covered even though they don't seem like the kind to jump out. drift wood is good to have with them they love to stick to that and eat off of it.

no. They're not flexible at all. They only can reach certain areas of the tank. Not a great fish to get for alage purposes.
