so if anyone of you seen two tanks one tank has farm raised tems azuls and intermedias just for the hell of it and in the 2nd tank their wild caught of the same species in tank 1..tank one being farm raised and example they price is $30 eatch for 2-3 inchers..2nd tank $50 for wild caught..but the 1st tank farm raised ones have more color and look way better and pellet trained..which ones would you go for? i'm just curious cuz i would buy farm raised fish if they look better and cheaper..its all peacock bass anyway..
Mmmmmmm. Gave some thought to it....here it goes.
Who do you want to satisfy, you or someone else and do you want to breed? If you want to make yourself happy pick what looks the best. Your scenario above I would totally pick the farmers. If you want to impress others wild fish sound better or are typically more valuable. I will say having had both african cichlids and south american wild caught fish which I have acquired off the boat, wild fish always were more susceptable to disease. It seemed I always had to treat for parasites etc.
If i wanted to breed I would still pick the farmers if they looked better and hand pick a few wild for giggles. Also what type of bass are you looking for. I'll give you an example I have wild orinos, monos, kelberis and azuls and they are nice but I picked up a bahia farmer and at 4.5 inches his colors blow all the other fish away, I dare say its retarded. And he eats pellets.
PBass Epiphany: If you have the choice buy the following:
-the youngest fish you can that look hardy. easier to covert than older fish
-pellet fed
-wild that have been locally acclimated
-If farm fish just look for fin deformaties, usually they are obvious
-buy as many fish as you can house, sell off excess later. Having the pack of bass as oppossed to 2 makes for great competition to help covert and consume different foods.
-dont mix smallmouth bass with these guys, seems like its ok, it is not.
- orinos are mean(and oh yeah the smallmounth beat them into submission)
-you always need just one more
I would like to see those two tanks though.
