I've just bought my first pair of p.bass paid $120.00 for 2x6-7"ers which are occelaris I believe . I've been keeping stingrays for over 2 years now and wanted another type of mid to top water fish besides adding another aro. I gathered info on all of the other forums I have read and been noticing members wanting ID's of the bass and a lot of people refer to them as farmies, is this a bad thing meaning they are captive bred? And is WC what you want to go with when it comes to p.bass

Farmies are the mass bred ones. Not necessarily a bad thing, some have very nice colors but there are rarer bass, both bred in captivity and wild caught

I will try to post better pics but the ones I have are they farmies? I didn't want to go with the more expensive species since this is my first attempt at this fish. Lfs had them on feeders I got them eating worms and tasting everything else I throw in there for the other fish there sharing the tank with

x2 I agree, farmies aren't bad just more common.

In my case I prefer pure bloodlines which is why I go for wc cichla. I would grab one more to spread the aggression, ime cichla do better in groups of atleast 3....with two one will bully the other.

I'm going with three but wanted to go with 2 lower end species first since they are my first attempt at keeping p.bass. I'm still learning the different species and how to ID. One type that is catching my eye are the ones who tend to have the greyish colored bodies with stripes rather than the blotches I believe they are monoculus
