What kind of temp range can "tropical tank" plants handle, both high and low?

I'm thinking about growing some java fern, swords, etc. outdoors, and I'm wondering when and how long the season could be for me...

They'll exit in 60 -95 but not thrive at the extremes.

Where are you located? It's not in your bio.

I'm in N Central Florida - Gainesville area. My 12,500 gallon above ground pool is already a balmy 88, but it is in Full Sun.

I'm hoping that I can get some growing done either in early spring (Feb is coldest here) or start in late Fall and go thru early winter...

Not a fish pool, a me and wife and kids swimming pool.. althouhg I've threatened that if the wife lets it go green again it is *mine* :)

If you dig the pools/ponds into the ground it will help even out the temps.

If you only dig the ponds in half way use the excess dirt to berm around them for insulation and support.

Here 6ft down it's 72-75 degrees, I put some copper coils in the bottom of a hole and then a foot of sand on top to hold moisture, filled it back in and use this to regulate outside tank temperatures.

You can make a cheap solar water heater from pvc pipe and paint it black, or just lay some black plastic on the available water to heat it up.

You should do well all year round.
