In spring I put in an 8 foot wide 5 foot deep moat around my crops. I raise fish and plants in the water, it is an old system that keeps the Temp. higher giving me an extra 2 to 3 weeks in both Spring and Fall. It also gives the insects somewhere to drink while pollinating the flowers.

Great idea. So what kind of fish and plants do you have in it? Do you excavate and fill it in every year?
