i agree, i thought there was an article about this in a fish magazine. Cant remembe the magazine off hand but it was a pretty comical article.

I think I have only cycled 2 tanks completely from new in my entire life. I always just add a completely dirty bio-wheel filter on the back of a tank and I have never had spikes of ammonia, or bacterial blooms, or any cloudiness at all.
The last one I did was a 125 gallon tank and I set it up with a new xp3 and gravel. Then I added some ornaments from my 75 and my oscar and a penguin 350 (75 gallon biowheel filter), and over the course of 3 days I had all the fish in the 125 and all the rest of the ornaments and I didn't do water changes the first week, but now I do them weekly and have no problems whatsoever.
