Where the Parachromis roam...
Would less fish in a tank mean faster growth for the ones in the tank??Right now i have a 125 gal tank,i have a 3-4" Dovii,3-4 " Texas,4-5"Dempsey,2.5" Umbee and a 1.5 "grammode, say i take out the dempsey and the Texas, plus 1 of my Pleco's(i have 2),and with good Water changes and really good diet do you guys think it will increase my Dovii's and Umbee growth rate??:headbang2

Multiple water changes and multiple feedings of high quality food will do a lot. I do a 20-30% change once or twice a day on the grow out.

125 is to small for thoughs kinds of cichlids they grow to large and to territoriel.. also gramodes grow extreamly slow compared to the dovii and umbee and are also a smaller cichlid in general... what i would do is fig out what cichlid u would like to keep and build around that spicific one fish...

Well, less fish = less waste = cleaner water = better growth

Also, less fish means less competition, and more food, since there is always a fish that hogs all the food, or at least gets more.

Another thing to consider is stress, the more crowded, the more fights and more stress.

But if you can keep the tank clean regardless of quantity, they all get along, and get plenty of food, they should grow fine.

Well i was hoping to keep the grammode in the 125 and get a few more grammodes, the Dovii and Umbee will be going into my basement pond in the spring.I know that sooner or later i will still have to get rid of one of my big boys!!

Less fish means less ammonia.......Less amonia means less troubled water...Water quality and a variety foods...........Always have a staple food that is inexpensive and is easy to storage.........Hikari pellets feed is the staple I have been using for the past 20+ years...........I stick by Hikari, no matter how that package looks........

thats why im gettin rid of some of my fish...

Yeah the grammode is not gonna be able to keep up. Doesn't mean get rid of it. But power feeding isn't Really the safest route can cause long term issues. But With That said I power feed some of my fish;) but only for short periods of time. I Also fast them to allow them to digest everything. I have great success with growth by using a 180 or 125 for grow outs, I also feed 2-3 times a day feeding krill, bloodworms, massivore, and other hikari pellets. Then usually do 25% water changes every day on those particular tanks. Once they reach 6" or so ill slow down to feeding twice a day and cut back on frozen and massivore. For example I got my haits at 3" at end of July and by end of November the males were 7":) same With dovii and umbees.
