I'm sure this topic has come up many times. I am looking for a more effective way to change water. I am currently using a 50 feet aqueon water changer, leaving the water on the whole time to get better suction for the poop (but also wastes a lot of water). i do 50% water change once sometimes twice a week and it takes me about 3 hours to change my 3 tanks (230, 100, 55) worth of water.

please tell me a more effective/water saving way to change my water!

get a hose with a big opening... at the moment i'm using a hose with an opening about 3/4" - 1" wide and it takes a while... but if you get a hose with a much wider opening, you can basically empty a large tank in no time... the only tricky part is getting the syphon part going... but once its going, then you can empty a large 200G tank in literally 10 min or less...

you mean the use your mouth to suck it out? what kind of hose should i use?

Well, sucking it out is one way... adding a submersible pump is another :)

Or if you can, you can use the output of your filter to get the syphon going too...

As for hose, you can probably just goto some like home depot to pick one up? i just buy them at the local hardware stores over here...

Honestly, not sure, since i just literally use a garden hose... but i don't see any reason why that wouldn't work?

hmm i have an idea that might work. i can just fill the thing with water using my aqueon water changer to get it to start suctioning, and use both at the same time. hopefully it will work. just placed an order on one. :D
