Fasting a Senegal Bichir

I was wondering what folks feeding schedule is like for their Senegal Bichir's.

I have a 56 gallon columnar tank with:
1Senegal Bichir (4.5 inches)
1 Gold Severum
1 firemouth Cichlid
1 electric blue acara
6 black skirt tetras

I have only fasted the fish once a week but can I go longer than that? My bichir has a nice round belly. For example can I feed a bichir 3 times a week? I've done this with other fish tanks but it was with small fish such as neon tetras etc.

Other the bichir being a bit upset its not eating everyday will it be ok if I do this on occasion?

You can feed the bichir daily without any problem but not advisable because more food in will result in more waste out means night nitrate etc

I've gone 2 days to a week not feeding my fish sometimes. I regularly feed every other day for my bigger fish, everyday for smaller (baby-juve) fish, but they're in separate tanks. Some fish will eat everyday and some won't. I have an albino senegal same size as yours that eats every meal like it's last. Eats everything I drop in the tank pellets, bloodworms, whole silversides, even tho they're not for him.

No problem fasting for more than a day. I feed every other day unless fish are small and i am aiming for growth.

Not just polys you can do this for your cichlids as well. More harm over feeding than under

Thanks for the advice. I have had the bichir/cichlid setup for about 6 months and was afraid these fast growing needed fish daily. Good stuff!
