We went fishing again yesterday at our talapia hole and caught another bullhead. However, after looking at the picture it looks like a blue. It had a boxy tail like a bullhead and blues have forked tails. There are blues in that lake too. This bad boy weighed in at 5# but we didn't measure it. It is out there still swimming. I just saw on the FWC site that the record is 5.5 for the brown bullhead and open for the state record.

There isn't any info for black bullheads, but this one isn't very black (or brown for that matter).

Any ideas (or guesses) for the species? Supposedly there are seven bullhead species in Florida. I've found info for three (black, brown, & yellow).

To me it looks like a HUGE! Bullhead. I could be wrong though I mainly catch channel's in my area. If its a blue that is an awesome catch as well they are pretty rare aren't they ?
Either way thanks for the catch and release bro as mentioned it may be preggo.

holy sh#t thats huge bullhead! Glad that you released that bullhead so it can produce more bullheads like her.

It might be yellow bullhead due to white whiskers on the chin but its body shape throw me off. Brown and black sometimes has faded whiskers when they get older. So either yellow or black bullhead you had. My vote is Black bullhead since yellow bullhead rarely get big.

Nice bullhead, one of the local lakes here had a 8 pounder caught out of it a few years ago.

its a fat cat really :D
