Hey guys, I'm having an issue with one of my cichlids, I'm not sure what it is but the fish is acting completely fine other then it's physical appearance.... I have a female green terror who laid eggs once before but there was no male so they weren't fertilized.. Now almost for the past 2 months it has been extremely bloated looking with this white ball looking thing underneath it that never goes away.. She looks like she's full of eggs but never lays them and it's just swimming around all the time looking pregnant... I've read multiple things on the Internet about egg impacted and so on.. I have no Idea if it could be that or something else.. I know that a cichlid isn't supposed to have an egg tube out for 2 months straight looking full of eggs.. Right? Shouldn't it have laid already if that was the case with or without a male?... Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Yah I know but how long are they supposed to be like that before they lay?

Many have this issue. Just recently someone's Flowerhorn died from the same way. The eggs were not able to lay eggs must have something to do with uterus or ovaries.

This maybe something else though can be bloat but looks like eggs. I

While it might seem like the most logical that the problem revolves around egg-binding, it's fairly uncommon in reptiles, and even more uncommon in fish. Something to consider is bloat in which the problem typically revolves around diet, and your answer would be some Epsom salts I do agree, it does kinda look like her tube is extended, but if she is egg-bound, it is not likely something that can be corrected and unfortunately the surgery people can have done to correct it in reptiles is not practical (or probably even available) for fish. I would personally try adding Epsom salts or just some basic table salt - 1 Tablespoon per 5 gallons and raise the temperature to speed-up her metabolism. That way the salt will act as a system-flush and regardless of what the problem is - some fish get this from constipation - it will work towards clearing obstructions.

In the meantime, doing some research on "Bloat" will prepare you for how to deal with it just in case. Unfortunately if it really is egg-binding there really won't be much that you CAN do.....it's just one of those things that sucks when it happens and you can try a variety of approaches but there's not a lot of hope.....egg-binding is very serious, so you should check into ALL other possibilities first....they will be easier to treat and much less stressful for you and the fish
