Hi all, I have a Flowerhorn that has developed a fat lip.. i thought maybe he banged it or something, he also ,has a few tiny dots of fungus just under his lip, and a match head size bit of fungus in his mouth..
He's not eating and doesnt move around much.. its now been about a week..
ive been doing salt baths but its not helping..
any advice is much appreciated
thanks in advance

If nothing else works try using canasten cream, sounds odd but its a kick arse anti fungal. remove from tank to bucket/tub. on way dry area affected smear with cream put in tub till all cream is gone. return to tank. if it is only a funky fungus id be surprised if this doesnt work. have used it on Fhs, Devils, and africans all with different skin problems and funky growths as a last resort , it rarely fails, probably should be my first port of call. the fish are unaffected by breathing or eating this stuff to. It sounds like the same thing I had on a Blue dolphin a while ago, canasten cream fixed him.

Thanks mate.. never heard of that one before but ill be sure to give it a go, and keep it in mind for future problems..
Cheers

What are your Ammonia, Nitrite and Nitrate levels? Much of what's going on can be easily fixed (without salt -- it's useless here -- why do people add all of this salt?) by good water quality. Please list those numbers and I'll try to help.

all levels are at 0.. i thought he might have a parasite as he had a small white thing that started to come out the side of his mouth, so i took him out to get a close look.
as i was having a closer look some gunk started coming out, so i gave it a little squeeze and a heap of stuff came out, so im guessing its an infection he has got somehow... whats the best treatment ?

great to hear BBF.
Justonemoretank: i know for a fact that salt, and epsom salt can do wonders for certain things, but it isn't in this case.. whats the best thing to do for an infection?
anyone?

As onemoretank said, salt is useless in this particular problem. Salt can be used to help with an ich infection, and thats about it. You can get antifungal medications at almost any pet store. You can also treat it if you can find some malachite green, if you've got some, I'll look up the dosage for you.
How can all of your water paremeters be 0? usually there is some Nitrate present in a tank. How big is your tank? how long has it been set up? What's the frequency of water changes?
