Ok I have 2 harlequin rasboras in my 30 gallon tank along with some other community fish. I know they like to be in groups, I did have 4 but two of them died a while back and I just haven't gotten around to get anymore right now. Anyway, my one harlequin rasbora is well...... fat. The other rasbora I have isn't fat he looks normal.
The fat rasbora is acting normal, swimming normal and eating normally. The rasboras are the first ones to come up to the top for food in the morning.
Why is the one rasbora fat and the other isn't? I haven't tested the water lately. I'll try and do that soon. I just did a 30% water change this afternoon.
Here is a few pictures of the rasboras. (sorry for the algae on the glass)

He looks full to me.

How can you tell if it's a male or female? Is it good if they eat so much that their stomach gets big like that?

the front of the triangle is curved in girls and straight in males but thats not normal for gravid females mine never got that fat

Is there anything I can do for it? I don't wanna lose the rasbora..... then the other one will be by it's self. Will a female lay eggs if there isn't a male in the tank?

I think the bulge seems to be nearer the stomach cavity i would be more inclined to think this was overeating. The way i found to tell the difference, if you do indeed have a pair, is if the male shimmies next to her to encourage the release of the eggs. I would, if you can, separate them from the rest and starve them for a day or so to see it will pass through. Post this in fish illnesses and see what people say there.

by the way from your pic i am 70% sure the fat one is male

The only other tank I have is my 10 gallon tank. I have a male betta in there. Would they be ok with the betta? Should I strave them both if it's just the one that is fat?

It would be best to keep them together so they can shoal if theres plants in the ten gal and your betta aint too aggressive youd be fine putting them there starve both for a day or so
