Fatf or characin community?

I've come into a 48x48x34.9 tank and am trying to decide how I want to set it up, Fatfs came to mind, or yellowtail barracuda, what do you guys think I should do?

Both would probably work, and probably would work together as well as long as they are similar in size from the start ... FATF would appreciate a longer tank in the future, but I think you could get away with that size tank for quite a while, a few years at least, maybe permanently with only a single FATF

To be honest, I wouldn't be comfortable with a FATF in that tank for life. Even though it's smaller gallon wise, a 240 would be better long term; the fish would really appreciate the 8' footprint.

You'd be able to get away with pretty much any combination of FATF and cudas that you could think of for a very, very long time however. They're both slow growing fish that won't get much over a foot long. I suppose you really could be ok with them for life, but like I said, they would at least appreciate the extra space.

I think you'd be fine for at least 3-5 years. The FATFs would have to be absolutely maxed out before they really NEED an upgrade.
