In about September1993, I saw a half page ad in the back pages of Aquarium Fish Magazine. The ad was for "Mark T. International". It said that he was an importer of FATF from Lake Kariba in Africa and showed a very nice black &white drawing of a small FATF. I called him and he said that he lived in Phoenix, Arizona I think. He said that he had imported a large number of juvenile FATF. I made a deal with him to ship some to me in Tennessee for $50.00 each plus shipping charges. They showed up alive and I put them in a 75 gallon tank with a wet/dry filter that made lots of current. They seemed to really like the setup. Everything was great for a couple of days with all the little 2-3" monsters. Well, they got used to the tank and started ganging up on the smaller , weaker ones of the bunch. Usually about one per week was killed. Long story short, I ended up having 3 leftover in individual aquariums after a few months. They were tame like some Cichlids get and were great little monsters. The last one that I had given to a friend eventually died in 1999 or early 2000 at 16" long or so. My question is, did anyone else see this ad or buy any from this source? I had only owned 2 individuals prior (VATF, most likely) to 1993, so it was a learning experience. Just curious. Anyone keep ATF before 1991 or 1992 other than me? Ah, the good ol' days. Lol!!!
