Fathers day SW fishing gear

Can anyone recommend some good SW fishing gear i can buy my dad for fathers day?

absolutely just need details. east coast or west coast? north or south? does he fish inshore, nearshore, or offshore? most commonly targeted species?

Were on SW side in FL, mostly sharks, stingrays, drums, cherry grouper, pampano, spanish mackeral, sheep head, amberjack, ladyfish, sea trout, sometimes tarpon and redfish stuff like that. On a 18' skiff so offshore.

im in st. petersburg, for all fishing i use shimano stradic on st. croix rod

that seems like a heavy rod for trout. For me a big part of fishing is the fight. I feel like you would just be dragging in a fish instead of fighting it.
