gar or pike like fish like hajuta gar, needle nose and marble

do you find these all hardy? can live together in 100 gallon? marble is suppose to even be able to live in low oxygen water?

which ones do you find the most hardy? do they actually grow 12 inch in captivity? I have never seen one bigger than 9 inches of any of these species

florida gars yes i have seen huge almost 2 feet but not the faux gars or cudas

the red tail cuda seems very sensative to water conditions but yellow tail much more hardy

They are all sensitive fish. They aren’t cb like Florida gars. All wild caught and kept alive on feeders. That’s the big issue.

They all require average flow in a tank. Bicuda need much more flow and oxygen compared to other pike characins.

Find hujeta gars to be more stable and tolerant. This is compared to cudas (both types),needle nose and pike characins ( spotted or striped).

Needle nose are sensitive. Most require salt and hard to break off of live foods. Very prone to ich and fungus. Then next sensitive would be cudas, pike characins, bicuda, etc.

ty do you find the marble pikes more easy than needle nose??? my needle nose is doing good but they all need tank to themselves

none of these are gonna get 12 inches tho in captivity like people say? no hajuta or needle or marble have i seen get that big they stop at the 10 or 8 inch mark even in six foot tanks like mine. 5 year old hajuta gar only grew 8 inch.

I noticed needle nose will defend themselves so will hajuta gars if the threat is smaller they will use their teeth and lash out they do that to people also if you corner by mistake while cleaning tank they go into panic and will lash at u. Bite would hurt.

Gars are calm tho the real gars never lashed out like that at me. BUt they arent practical for us who dont have 500 gallons for a 2 foot fish. I love gars but no way ill get a tank for them. Maybe a pond for a longnose gar.

yeah i noticed they very prone to fugus i added another aquaclear

lots of plants floating plants for them they live with red wolffish who never really grew that big and i have had a long time. WOlf fish is only aggressive when something trys to fight with it. BUt a cichlid like a big devil will win. REd wolf lack power of the larger wolf. Their bites have no effect on fish like devils. So i keep these guys together they dont seem to compete or fight. I got my hajuta gar free cause he was missing scales and an eye finally he looks good again.

ok so i got red tail cuda eating all kinds of pellets easy

could NEVER do that with red tail cuda

also my purple wolf will eat anything falls to the floor sorry red wolf i mean

i have seen my needle nose eat thawed shrimp dead that floated her way so i imainge eventually she will eat packaged food?

hajuta gars are easiest to get off live

i have never seen a marble gar eat anything but live

but hajuta gar can teach others to eat non living, they watch eatch other and copy

Pike characins are easier in the sense of feeding compared to needle nose gar. The water quality requirement for needle nose gar make it more difficult. That’s all. Still would choose a pike characin over needle nos gars just cause of the care and food requirement.

I believe bicuda is the biggest and have seen some 14inchers on fb.
