Just don't know what's considered the "original Freddy." The type locality of the species is Lago Peten, Guatemala.

And according to CRC they're found in
Cenote Escondido (Mexico, native), Chocolhaito River (Mexico, native), Lake Petén-Itza (Guatemala, native), Noh Lagoon (Mexico, native), Río Babahoyo (Ecuador, native), Rio Bascam (Mexico, native), Rio Danto (Honduras, native).
So I don't know what's considered "original" as far as the ORIGIN of the species--and not sure if that's referring to the species from an evolutionary standpoint or a hobby standpoint.

im guessing the hobby. the la ceibas are a more recently found variant and i beieve the others are the same type of fred found in other locations. id like to see who would say that from an evolutionary standpoint as theyve probably been around for thousands of years

Thing is I'm willing to bet one from Mexico is going to look different than one from Guatemala and one from Ecuador. So my question was what collection point is the "original Freddy?" It's not like a managuense where there's aquarium strains floating around everywhere.

Parachromis: RTM
Amphilophus: Midas (Trimac close 2nd)
Ex-Cichlasoma: Festae (if Festae are considered SA, I'll say Grammode)
Nandopsis: Odo
Herichthys: Escondido
Veija: Argentea
Paratheraps: Melanurus

understandable. the way i see it is the la ceiba is a different fish than the friedrichsthalli seen from any collection point. to me theres the la ceiba and parachromis fred. two seperate fish and if someone refers to normal or original fred they are reffering to the freddy thats not from la ceiba regardless of collection location

Haha there are far too many cichlid species. I'll just name my favorites c:
Oreochromis Niloticus
Hemichromis Bimaculatis
Pseudocrenilabris Multicolour
Tilapia Zilli

My favorite Amercians... be it central or south:

parachromis: la ceiba friedrichshtalli
amphilophus: lyonsi
excichlasoma: festae
nandopsis: haitiensis
herichthys: carpintis or minckleyi or bocourti... DOH!
veija/ paratheraps: zonatum or hartwegi
australoheros: red ceibal
Discus
Severum

I only used "or", when I REALLY had to! LOL... I didn't put any gymnos or geos, because the list would just get too crazy.

It's funny though, THAT is differentiated by most but people say "motaguensis" when I'm willing to better they're referring specifically to the RTM.
