Favorite first fish

Hi all, I was just looking at all my tanks and realized all the fish I have are the ones I used to stray away from. Got me thinking about that first tropical tank. Guppies, tigerbarbs, tetras, and all that. I have a spare 20 gallon long that I'm thinking of taking "back to the basics." Anyone have a favorite beginner fish? Mine is definently tigerbarbs.

Neon tetras or Cardinal Tetras are prob my favorite 'beginner' fish.

I started with a Convict. They're easy & hardy but will breed you out of tank space.

I started with gold fish...not sure how many i went through but it wasn't pretty lol. It is hard to keep anything in a bowl.

My first fish was a Pleco...still my favorite after 23 years.

Even though Goldfish tends to be the top beginner fish they actually need alot of work

My first fish were a school of white skirt tetras and they had a character of their own.

I've definitely run into this before. I currently have two convicts that started as fry thrown in my african tank who have survived the 16" amazonian pike to have babies and take over the tank.
I personally still like neon tetras as far as beginner fish go. Their schooling is very cool to watch.

have a tank full of rasboras Microrasbora erythromicron not really starter but there are cherry barbs and of course corys in there

Pacu's. by far. First fish, and hopefully I can get another tank big enough for 2 or 3.
