As the title suggests, what do you think is the best substrate color for Tanganyika cichlids? I'm trying to decide between black sand or light colored playsand. I've got some black estes lying around but I'm worried it'll be too dark with the black background.

It sort of depends what you want to put in the tank. Too dark or too light a substrate will prompt some fish to sort of shift in that direction.
For instance, never put a black comp (or calvus) on white sand or a white one on black sand...
