I went on a fish shopping spre today and i bought a fluid bed filter and a pump to go with it. its an otto bf-700. heres the problem im running the recommended pump rate (600litres per hour). and the out pu tis extremely weak and compaed to running the power head by itself. i can see airtraped in the filter but it isnt going away how do i increase the water flow so that the sand moves around? (even though i tryed it with a pump twice the recommened lph and it still didnt go). also it says the maximum water levl is below the output intake. how does it go back into the water if it cant pickup the media?

hi amehel0,

Is this fluidized bed filter a Lifegard brand FBF? If so, the sand should be floating in between the 2 lines. I think what's happening in your case is the sand is compacting on the bottom of the filter. You will have to empty the sand and refill it all over again . I haven't found a way to backflush the compacted sand. Don't start the pump until you setup the filter at your tank, because you can't start it up and stop it or the sand compacts. It's very frustrating when there's a power outage. Anybody use sinking beads instead of sand in FBFs? Any probs with those?

umm i figured it out and its an otto fbf. i had to setit up literaly in the tank.with the input conected but not the out put i then had to put the output filled with water and connected underwater. i then fllowed to pull it out and let it sit on the side. the sand is really tripping me out. its so cool.anyways the 5ft tank is done then last night my lights broke after4days of use so i got a refund.
