hi everyone, i have a featherfin syndontis that i bought at about 2.5 inches which has already doubled in size. seems like he is doing pretty well, very active, eats everything i put in the tank...bloodworms, mysis shrimp, flakes, pellets, you name it...are these adequate foods? also, seems as though the top of his dorsal fin is a little damaged...could this be because of the rocks i have in the tank? is he potentially scraping that fin on them? anyone have pics of good, healthy specimens so i can compare? thanks for the help guys

here is mine. it took about 3 years for him to get almost 8".

I had mine for almost a year now but kinda sort of not my fish. Not that much control of the tank. Anyway, it's about 4-5 inches and on occassion active. Normally around me other people it shut down around. It's fins are the same a little damage like the picture so it's probably natural.

Are you guys talking about those long raggedy looking xtensions on top of the dorsal? If so, thats a natural trait of all eupterus. It is not a sigh of damanage and these filaments will only get longer as fish grows.

Here's mine. Anyone know anything about that rough-looking patch by his head? It's been there for ages, and is the same shape/area on both sides.

mine looks just like the ones posted and is a fatty pig fatty............loves any food that sinks to the bottom.........shrimp pellets, nls cichlid pellets, etc........

mine actually had his rear fin chewed almost clear off and in 1 month he is absolutley perfect now...........melefix and some salt!!!:)

unfortunately the raggedy extensions are what mine is missing, should i try the melafix or pimafix thing? I add vitamins to the tank weekly for the african cichlids i keep him with, but it doesn't seem to help much. i don't notice them ever nipping on him (he is much bigger than all of them) but perhaps that might be part of the problem too. nice fish in the pics by the way
