Yeah, I would assume that since most catfish are opportunistic feeders he would eat available fry. On the other hand I might be afraid of protective cichlid parents beating him up. What type of cichlids are you considering adding him to?
 
a colony of tropheus moorii. i love the looks of the syno, and actually have one in another tank, but am not really wanting to loose any potential fry to him.
 
No doubt those eupterus will actually eat them.;)
 
They will eat the fry and if the fry grew they would still be in danger until they couldnt fit into his mouth.
