Does anyone do this and/or do it regularly? I understand the herbicide/pesticide issue, but the ones in my backyard have not been treated...I gave my Bredohiri, Syns, Pearsei, and Red Hooks a few and they seemed to really like them...

Yes Duane is a very experienced veteran member and has suggested that Dandelion is perfectly fine for Herbivores or Omnivore Cichlids.

Etroplus eating dandilions
There are certain cichlids, that have evolved to eat primarily aquatic, and overhanging terrestrial vegetation, or flooded forest type, like the Etroplus suratensus in the video above, or Cincilichthys bocourti, and pearsei, some Vieja and Uaru.
So for those type I used fresh dandelions, romaine lettuce, peas, and grew algae in outdoor containers.
