Feed GAR - the size of the fish?

I have one question regarding the size of the fish - feed Gar:

There is a rule by which I tell what size fish can eat Gar?

Example:

I have A.spatula - size 12-14 cm (4.7" - 5.5"). What is the biggest fish can eat?

When will 10 ": What size fish can eat?

20 "25", 30 ".... there is rule by which I find it?

Mám jednu otázku ohľadom veľkosti ryby - krmivo pre Gar :

Existuje pravidlo podľa ktorého zistím, akú veľkosť ryby dokáže zožrať Gar ?

Príklad:

Ja mám A.spatula - veľkosť 12-14 cm ( 4,7" - 5,5" ). Akú najväčšiu rybu dokáže zožrať?

Keď bude mať 10": akú veľkú rybu dokáže zožrať ?

20", 25", 30".... existuje pravidlo podľa ktorého to zistím?

Be very careful here! Please keep in mind that the Gar can swallow HUGE food items up to roughly 2/3 of their body size. With that said it is EXTREMELY bad to EVER attempt to feed you Gar large size feeders for numerous reasons.

Why on earth would you even consider this? I'll put it this way, you can probably swallow a golf ball, but would you risk your life in an attempt?

A decent rule of thumb would be feeding your gar a higher number of live feeders or meat chunks rather then attempting to feed it just one bigger portion. Your Gar will let you know when it has had enough smaller portions to eat!
 
The gape of a gar is a scary thing... use small, healthy fish, don't worry about measurements - seems like overkill.

When the gar is big enough just get it off live food.
 
Thank you for your reply. I now we feed them fish genus: Xiphophorus. Size 3-4 cm.

What pellets are you using? Please write the name, photograph possibly pellets. Thank you.
 
I feed my gars cut up fish, shrimp and pellets. As a general rule I cut up the fish into strips that are about half as long as the gar and no wider than the width of the gar's mouth at the base. My gars (longnose, shortnose and florida) will eat any floating pellets I throw in the tank but none of them are shorter than 12". I defrost all the frozen foods before I feed it to them.
 
i use guppies cause they are slow swimmers and are reasonably good sized feeders for my 7" gars. What type of fish meat do you cut RedDwarf, cause the other day i cut up some mackerel strips for my gars and they snatch at it but then spit it out.
 
i've bought frozen beefheart and krlll and my gar picks on that a little bit. My LFS sells neon tetras for cheap and i just got some of them to eat honestly...
