Hello MFK community.
This being my first post i apologize if this is in the wrong area. I am a teenager located in Brooklyn NYC, and i have been taking care of fish since the age of 7, i am currently 16 and have a 55gallon tank. Stocked with a Green Terror 6-7 inches, a female green Texas about 4 inches, 4 giant danios and a pleco (sail fin i believe). I had to divide the GT from the rest of the tank for being to aggressive so the tank is split in half.

My family is redoing the basement and if my grades in school keep up i will be allowed to get a new tank, i was think about 210 gallons, which might seem puny in the eyes of some, but i hope this would qualify for a MFK status :P.
I looked around the forums and saw some good advice for filtration i was thinking a small pond filter? would work nicely.

I'm also drawing alot of blanks on what to stock this tank with, i was wondering if it would be possible to keep a red tail cat fish, and i would like some stocking suggestions, that would also fit with the fish above when moved in.

Thanks alot! This site is awesome!

this tank is going to be awesome, but you won't be able to keep the rtc. too big. I suggest bichirs, arowana (try to see if you can't get a 240 or 300g for these guys, definitely worth it), lima catfish, gulper catfish, geophagus, jurupari, pike cichlids.

maybe ill make them an offer and cough up some cash for a bigger tank, i knw i can get a tank canopy and stand for 210 for like 900usd. does anyone know how much a 300gallon would be or a 250?

As far as the tank, If you are looking for brand new, check out glasscages.com. They have fair prices on most sizes.

As far as what to put in it. I think a pair of jags would be neat in a 210. Or a pair of Vieja Argentea.

ya n RTC they get to like 7ft .... try to go bigger but a pair of oscars would look weet so would a pair of jags

yeah i'm definitively gonna try to go bigger, cause i wanna keep bigger fish lol.
its 990 for the 300 tall tank alone, so i'm gonna see what i can do, as far as stocking, im still drawing blanks, i keep seeing insane vids on youtube of gars, aros, and cats, and anything aggressive which are all very appealing to me

sorry for the double post, i was also wonder what do you use as substrate in a tank so large?

try pool filter sand. Looks good, cheap, easy to clean, and heavy enough not to be blown around whenever your fish play in it

first of all, don't go for the 300 tall. get a standard or a long, if anything. most fish don't use the height anyways. for substrate, its up to you. sand looks nice, and so does gravel :D

all sounds good. my parents sound agreeing if i can keep my grades up i think im gonna go for the 300. i wanna make a list of expenses so i can give them a ball park. estimate, there not paying for fish though lol :P
