In my fish tanks.
has anyone breed feeders before? im tired of going to the pet shop every two days n buy feeders. i have a feeder tank but if i put to much they all just die?

i put the feeder tank on the floor so its colder. i heard feeders do well on colder temps.

Not all feeders can do well in cold temperature. What species of feeders are you using and why are feeders that necessary? What fish are you feeding them to? Feeders have been inbred too much that their genetics and quality make them unstable for most setups.

Please take the time to read this thread.

your feeders are dieing because of a unbalanced bio load. Most people buy a bunch of feeders and dump then in a tank and wake up the next day to a massive die off. Thats because of ammonia build up to toxic levels. The only way to combat this is to have a running amount of feeders in the tank at all times. If you actually do get your feeder tank to fully cycle and then use all the feeders in it a few everyday and let the stock amount get down. As the stock is being lowered the bio-bacteria is dying off as its food source is being lowered. So when you empty the tank and dump another load of feeders in the tank you get an ammonia spike and dead feeders.----------The best way to do it is to cycle the feeder tank with an extreme amount of bio-load. And then stock it with a large amount of feeders and do a weekly to by weekly restock of what has been used. That way there is allways a large amount of bio-load present. I keep 350 feeders in a 55g tank and I use about 3 dozen a week. So every 2 weeks I get 6 dozen to restock with. And this keeps the bio load closer to balanced. Also to keep a large amount of feeders you need a large amount of filtration.

I have a 10 gallon feeder tank with a 55 gallon HOB filter and i get a large amout of the dieing over night to. i get them 100 at a time. when they are all gone. should i just get a dozon a week and keep them in there with out using them up? is this what you are saying it is bad to put some in use them all up then put more in?

adding 100 fish at a time is ALWAYS a bad idea.

yea i breed guppies to feed my fish.

all my fishes are monsters. i feed my aro about 4 raw shrimps from a local sea food store lol. he loves those shrimps, but they are 3.99 a pound. i know feeders arent good for any deit for any fish, but most of my fish just eat feeders. plus its much more entertaining =)
