State of chaos
I looked at the Rosy Red tank at the lfs and guess what I saw?
2'' Gourami! It was a leucistic white one so I couldn't ID. it was tempting, but sure it could be a Honey Gourami that could live happily with the White Cloud Minnows, but it could also bne a Giant Gourami and require 120 gallons. :( No one buys from the Rosy Red tank, so hopefully he won't end up inside a Texas Cichlid, or if someone does buy him hopefull the guy will realize what it is and put him in a tank. Hopefully he'll get big enough and be put on sale as the monster he is...
What really pissed me off was that I pointed it out to the employee and he said "Oh it's ok, its just...yeah..." and trailed off.:swear:

could've been a nice find, but then again, not a big deal what the employees did, unless a gourami's life is somehow more valuable than that of a rosy red minnow

Dude, get a camera! A MFKer in Cali is selling a used 4 mp for twenty bucks, which is affordable even to poor students. Unless shown proof, I doubt that what you saw is a gourami. I've seen many small sunfish in feeder tanks and I'm going to go with that identification. What store was this in? I'll send someone to take a look for me.

Petland Discounts in bay ridge. I know a Gourami. This guy was 2'' long, white, with a flat sloping head with a few dorsal spines and long filaments on the fins.
Yeah, I think Gouramis are more important than Rosy Reds...

I feel your pain. I can't count how many Gambusia Affinis I've saved from feeder tanks...

amen, I have 2 females from feeder tanks. Not a single dead Gambusia in those! They're tough. And lots of Rosy Reds have been turning up dead with no tails in those tanks...wouldv'e gotten more but my parents said no more fish for now :(:irked:

Well you always sucks at ID on the fish. Please take a picture of this sunfish/"gourami" thing. Otherwise this thread is worthless without pictures.

That's a little harsh. But I'm no idiot. I can distinguish between a Gourami and a Bluegill. Besides one of the employees was telling me that they occasionally get Cichlids. So before you go around telling people that they suck, try either being there yourself or working on trusting people who can distinuish between Sunfish and Gourami. I've seen hundreds of Bluegills/Pumpkinseeds so I think I know a Sunfish when I see one. Thanks.

ok guys I did some research yes it's 100% a Gourami, and also it doesn't have the squared-off jaw and humped head of a Giant Gourami. Would it have these features at this size? If not, what is the most likely species? Rule out Beta, Paradise Fish, and (I think) Giant. Obviously it can stand cooler temperature, because it's in an unheated feeder taank. The pectoral filaments were somewhat long and the dorsal fin was relativly long, longer (from beginning to end) than that of a FEMALE Beta. So ID please? Remember, It's a leucistic all-white fish, so color ID is not available.)
