recently i just added a couple of feeders fish into my tank , all died , those that stay alive longer make it into my kafue pike's stomach , symptoms of death ,feeders scale starts to peel off like rotting , die after two hours or so upon releasing into tank , funny thing is that my fishes in the tank had no problems, what causes this ? anyone?:screwy:

not sure....but i have the same problem?

Only feed a few feeders at a time............I have the same prob every now and again..........If i put too many rosies in.......a few always die and get stuck to the filter intake.........Instead of buying say 10 or 20, get 5 or 10...................:D .....ie. only as many as the fish you are feeding will eat in a sitting .........

p.s. the feeders either die from shock, or getting picked on, water param diff!!! etc..........:)

Yup, it's rite. Your tanks are usually warm, feeders like cooler water and higher PH....etc..Feeders are also very weak and just imagine how freak and stress they will get when get added to the tanks with big fish....

it just sucks to have all the feeders fish die , having to net them out , so the scales turning white and peeling off are them dieing of shock not sickness?

You guys should be buying your feeders and quarantining them. Feeders in general are not kept in the most healthy situation. Feeders will die often, and if not qt'd before fed, for at least 3 days, can kill your fish.

its a pain to buy like only ten at a time because you have to keep running back to the pet store every other day, wish i could keep them alive longer

The tank for feeders is a good idea. I have found that if the feeders die it is usually quickly and with a large percentage. Try to find out when your LFS gets deliveries so they spend less time in the crowded, usually dirty small tanks. It is a shame to lose a fish from bad feeders and a quarantine tank really only needs a filter. Spring is coming so you can always net your own.
