im sure some of you guys have seen posts similar to this before, but im wondering if anybody has had any personal experience with feeders causing problems with oscars. i know people who have raised and fed oscars feeders for decades and never seen any problems. i feed mine feeders all the time along with a mix of pellets, krill, bloodworms, flake. id like to hear from somebody who has had negative or positive experiences.thanx

Back in my younger years... I used to work at a petstore, well many of them actually, anyway...
I'm pretty sure I've seen more feeders than most people on this forum due to the numbers I used to get in on a weekly basis. I've seen plenty of feeders, goldfish and the little minnows, come in with ich on a regular basis, fungal infections (mostly on the minnows) and also seen fish lice which are really neat looking.

I work at a small pet store we do a lot of bread and butter but we are the only ones I know of within an hour and a half that actually quarantines regardless of condition or health... this is not the case with our feeders as it would be impossible with the numbers that we get in... 750 regular and 75 medium once a week... I have an Oscar and for the most part he eats exclusively pellets but when we have a slow week and the goldfish have been medicated for atleast a week (everyday with salt and Quick Cure) I will buy anywhere from 25-50 and bring them home but my situation is unique... ask questions (when was the last shipment of feeders that you got in? Do you medicate them? How often do you water change?) we treat all in a 75 gal. 250 per tank with 60 drops of Quick Cure a day 1 cup of salt and a fifty percent water change and may lose only two or three a day!!!

I personally say NO to feeders Goldfish ! they live in poor water conditions and have fungal infections, ich, anchor worm attached to them due to the poor water they live in. They also thrive in copper loaded water which is not very good for tropical fish.
