Feeder Fish
MFK Member
Ok ok,

I now am lucky enough to have to very nice fish one being a 9" Jardini Aro and the second an Aba Aba.

Both of which love eating live fish and at present we give them small baby fancy goldfish rather than normal goldfish. Can anybody tell me which fish make the best feeders.

Cheers

Quarantined goldfish are fine. Just make sure you Q them for about four weeks or so.

YEP lil baby ones, yeah they're Q'd for about 3-4weeks then fed slowly over a period of 2 weeks on top as well.

You can use that same technique and feed regular feeder goldfish. Much cheaper!

I pity those fancy goldfish :( , you can sell them for a hefty sum of money you know. Go for the ordinary feeder goldfish instead or try feeder shrimps.

Goldfish, rosie reds, and fatheads all can cause thiamine defficiencies, look up thiaminase on google. mollies and platies are much better long term, though if only used as treats any quarantined feeder works. I like live smelt as feeders for freshwater fish as very few diseases transfer salt to fresh, and it saves on the salted quarantine schtick.

We get the fancies in for .25p instead of .95p as our lfs knows waht they are for and likes to help keep our Aba Aba fed while we try to ween him over to non moving foods.

Thanks for all the input though.
