Feeder Fish

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Goldfish should be used as treats, not the staple diet if thats what you were planning?, as they have little nutritional value...Anyhow, Oscars will accept pretty much anything, but I have mine on hikari gold, some wardley pellets, blood worms every so often, and the ocassional feeders treat (which you should quarantine, to make sure thier healthy so your O doesnt catch anything)
Hope that helps.

Anything you can breed yourself to ensure that he is getting healthy feeders.

thanks and i was just planing as a treat once in a while. i normally feed him pellets, blood worms, brine shrimp and some community frozen food

You shouldn't feed goldfish or any other coldwater fish as they have an excess of fatty tissue that your O will not be able to properly digest.

If you must feed feeders then breed them yourself. Convicts are a good choice as they are so prolific, as are guppies. Mollies and Platies also frequently get used for this

i fed mine wild guppies but occasionally....the normal diet of my O's are sinking pellets, tubifex worms, mill worms....hope this helps!:)

Convicts are hard for oscars to catch.

well, if you whant to give your fish "hole in the head" you can give it gold fish
