recently i put some feeder livebearers into one of my tanks, they had something. within two days i lost a senegal, an albino senegal, a spotted gar, a ropefish, and a silver datnoid. their fins were slightly off-colored around the edges at fist, within just a couple hours, their bodies and fins turned red, they grew rigid, and finally died. i spent a whole day trying to medicate and revive them all as they were dying. the only survivors were two plecos and a delhezi. the only discolored parts of the delhezis fins are gone, but it is now eating and seems to be healing. this has definately turned me off of live fish as feeders for good.

This is exactly why you should NOT use feeders without quarantining them first sorry for your loss its a rough way to lern a lesson-Anne

feeders are the best food you can possibly give a fish

always quarintine your feeders before feeding (do it for at least 3 weeks)

and gut load and bulk them up

now you know next time

Sorry to hear of your tragic losses. :(

I beleive a variety of foods are the best to feed your fish... not only strictly feeders.

I stand 100% behind what Anne has said, as I too have had to learn the hard way.

Sucks man. Sorry to hear about your loss...so three weeks is the standard quarantine time for feeders?

The best diet includes a variety foods including a good quality pellet

I only use feeders as a treat. Feeding live feeders can get pretty pricey and (as you learned) can be pretty bad.
