how do you get an aro that's been on feeders his whole life to pellets?

im sure there are different ways. what seems to work the best for you? i've got a cat and a bichir for him to compete with. they eat pellets from the surface too.

try some starvation method. 1 thing that worked for me is using aro sticks since its shaped differently. they seem to go for it easier.

yah, i've got hikari aro pellets, fozen bloodworms [mentioned in another thread], krill.

im gonna go buy some market shrimp as well. whatever the aro doesn't eat, the other guys will. works for me.

no feeders ever. i dont like quaranteening feeders. he will have to starve until he eats my food.

after acclimating him on a drip, he's in the tank, colors are bright, and he's cruising. took a few pokes at the shrimp but no cigar.

I agree with the starvation method but you also need to be patient and strong by not giving in too quick. I had to starve one of my aro's for almost one week before it would take the pellets. Another thing is you don't want to starve it too long either as this can lead to bad things (sick or even death) from the aro being weak.

we're in day two and my aro accepted pellets. he/she ate about 20 pellets (hikari aro) readily, right after turning the lights on for the night. he wasn't spooked at all.

i'm in love!

p.s. hikari pellets stink wonderfully. i can barely resist. :banhim:

thats awesome. i was gonna say don't starve him since you just got him but thats great.

one thing to try, get him some cichlid gold pellets as there cheaper and get him on those too. jus so he can take a variety of shapes of food.

oh and where in sd do you live? i live in sd as well
