Anyone ever try to breed feeder goldfish for your carnivorous fish. I wouldn't mind trying this to give my RD, Blackbelt, and my soon to have Jag. I have not bought feeders in almost a year due to the diseases in the community fish water at the LFS. If you have tried it and were succesfull, please let me know how you did it and how often they lay eggs.

Thanks

Well since goldfish get to be a minimum of 9" long, you would need a good size tank with cold water for them. I think they breed in moops.

IMO, Goldfish should not be fed period. They are bony fatty fish with little nutrition know matter what you do to them.

Earthworms work much better, are very nutritous and can be gotten for free out of the yard or cheaply at the bait store and I've never seen a fish that didn't love them. Ken

If you want to breed a fish to use as feeders, just go with the popular choice of convicts, or guppies/endlers for smaller fish.

what about breeding glass shrimps, they multiply like anything, and need a lil place too.

yeah breed small cichlids its much eazier and if you run out of space you can useually sell the fry plus like said goldfish make pretty crappy feeders all carps do

i like the shrimp cichlid combo and would like to try it i've heard of people useing 29 gallon tanks or so to raise baby cichlids in and at the same time breed ghost/glass shrimp

Goldfish also have a growth inhibiting hormone in them. Its got to be a lot easier feeding smelt, lancefish etc.

Thanks everyone. I didn't even think about worms since it's winter time. I think I'll just stick with them.
