I'm just wondering if my jardini is the only arowana that doesn't know how to eat a feeder fish. The only food that she know's how to eat are insects and worms.

Feeder fish are generally not that healthy of a choice for food. I'm sure if you quit feeding the worms and insects you jar would eventually eat the feeder fish. You best bet is to get your arowana eating quality foods such as pellets and an assortment of freeze dried foods.

i agree.. excellent advice:)

that is fine if he only eats insects like worms because arowanas need a healthy diet and feeders are low on nutrients and sometimes just throw a couple of feeders so he can try to get use to them

Well im training him to eat pellets. My jardini is around 4 1/2 inches to 5 inches I starved it for 5 days and my dad added like 20 guppies when he got home from petshop and she didn't touch them. I removed the guppies after 2 days and gave it to his silvers lol. My water parameters are 0 ammonia, 0 nitrite and 10 nitrate. Take note that she also has 2 chinese algae eaters and senegal bichir as her tank mates.

IMO 5" is too small to be starving. I would feed a few broken pellets with each feeding of insects(crickets I would assume). You can even grind the pellets into a dust and coat the crickets before feeding, this may get your aro used to the taste of the pellets. I would limit feeding worms to just every few days until your jar is accepting pellets.

Good luck,

Thanks, I know pellets should be staple and I shouldn't feed my aro with feeders. This thread is more like a survey or to start a discussion about my jardini that doesn't have any interest in feeder fish.

Oxymoron isn't it? "I shouldn't feed it feeders but I want to start a thread about "MY" Jardini not eating feeders"?

BTW, you tried feeding it feeders once for two days.... I don't think that's concrete proof your Jardini doesn't eat feeders.

Sorry, but english is not my 1st language. 1st: I know I "shouldn't" feed my aro with feeder fish. 2nd: My dad was the one put in the 20 guppies and me out of curiosity had the urge to see my aro eat another fish, so when she didn't touch them I took the guppies out and gave it to my dad's silvers. Sorry for the confusion :chillpill:
