Pretty soon after I get caught on my bills I plan on getting a few florida gar. I was wondering would it be best to raise my own feeders or would it be easier to feed them f/t feeders. Also does this species take to pellets easiley? I am considering breeding my own bass minnows and treating them for parasites just to be safe.

they take to pellets well although patience is required because the time it takes varies from fish to fish. It is best to feed them prepared foods such as cut to size fish fillets and pellets to insure maximum nutrition.

Hey what part of Ga are you located?

plenty of info on feed converting your gar in the forum, so i would do a search as there is a myriad of threads on the topic.

one thing i have been doing with feeders for our experimental fish to add some extra nutrition is to feed new life spectrum pellets to the feeders, and then give the feeders to the gars. this makes the feeders into a delivery system for the pellets into the gars. you get to watch the live food excitement but also maintain a healthier food source for the gar. live food is much more expensive, so in the long run it's better to convert your fish to non-live plus avoiding parasites.
just thought i'd throw out a recent option that i've been using and has worked well--
