What can I get my little guy to eat?

His mouth is only like an inch wide- He tries to eat krill, but it's too big- I have cut up worms, but he doesn't show interest in them- he did when we first brought them home, but I think he finds them too hard to eat since they stretch out.

I know that black worms is the main thing to use, but here it's $5 for a small condiment cup, and I can't afford that 2 times a day for my datnoids to push themselves past a divider to get them all.

He did eat bloodworms, but they don't have much to them.

Could I blend up krill, silversides, and worms into a chunky paste and see if he eats that?

I watched him eat a ton of food at the pet store before buying him.

I have also heard there is a gel type thing that can be made... I have read the stickies, but I can't find it.

I am planning on removing the Datnoids, and tinfoil barbs- as they are getting in the way right now when I try to feed.

My 2 larger motoros eat anything and everything, and I am sure to feed the new guy on the opposite side of the tank so he can get food.

you can usually find the gel at any local supermarket. Walmart has it, and you can use that to make your own food.
Not eating worms is weird. That usually is the easiest thing to feed. I get night crawlers and feed them, Cut them up into 1/2 pieces if you have to. Messy, but it has to be done. In time you wont have to cut them up, he will take a hole one..
Also try frozen silversides from the pet store, talipa, raw market shrimp and scallops. But mine dont seem to really like scallops to much. You can also do ghost shrimp, but they get exp after awhile and dont provide much if any nutrition to the ray
Make your own food like thats in the sticky. Like I said, walmart sales the gel.
Blackworms are exp, but if you have to feed them to get him to eat, use a turkey baster. I suck them up in a turkey baster and then put the end of the turkey baster under the disk of the ray. Works and you know he is getting them and not someone else. Might take a week or so for him not to be scared of the turkey baster, but when he gets use to it and food comming from it, then he will love it...
Hope this helps

He was hand feeding at the petstore, and he associates me with food already.

It's not that he doesn't want to eat worms... I cut them in small pieces, but they still stretch out, and he just gets tired of trying to chew them I think. And they are skinny worms- not those huge fishing worms.

He was being fed ghost shrimps at the pet store along with black worms.. so I will go get some of them, and see if that works..

For gel, are we talking the Nox plain gelatin?

yes, the Knox gel is what you need, read one of the recepies the guys have posted or in one of the threads and make your own. Some of mine like it, some of mine dont, so just make a small batch at first and see if he like it. Might take a few trys to get him to eat it.
Also, remember, Ghost shrimp are not really good as the only food to feed. They dont have alot of nutrition. Only reason I ever give mine ghost shrimp is because rays are predator fish and love to hunt. I gut feed my shrimp before giving them to the rays, just so there is something good comming out of feeding them. But like I said, it gets costly if you do this all the time and there is not enough nutrition in them to really do a ray any good. They are more for fun than good food. I breed ghost shrimp, so I dont have to buy them.

Ghost shrimp here are .10 a pc.. I can not keep them alive though. I have no idea why. I bought 50, and with in 2 days, they were all dead.

I want to get away from live food asap. Other than worms.

I will make a gelatin, and see what happens.

I have frozen beefheart for fish, could I add some of that or no because it's mammalian meat?

Ive never added beef heart, so someone else might want to answer that.
Also get silversides. Can get at a pet store frozen. My ray love them.

Here is the link to FireMedic's DYI food. These work good. and there are other recipes on here (page down and read thru the thread) that work also. I use one of FireMedic's and Johno27's.. Both are good.

My big guys eat silversides.

I will throw something together tomorrow and see what happens.

K, good luck and keep us posted..
One of us is always here to help

I would stay away from the beefheart it is very high in protein and may constipate the ray.

My recipe is as follows

6-8oz tilapia
6 handfulls whatever pellet you like I use NLS, sinking cichlid gold, and the green sinking cichlid can't recall the name
1 capfull garlic guard
1 capfull seachem nourish freshwater vitamins
2 cups hot water
8 packets of gelatin

I blend up the pellets first then add the rest. I usually mix the water and gelatin before I add it as well
