Im thinking of getting a Bichir for my 150 that is stocked with some SA Cichlids. I read that they dont have great eyesight and that they hunt mostly by smell. My Cichlids are fast, swarming eaters. Because of this, what would be the best way to feed the Birchir? What should I feed it and would I need a special feeding tube of some sort?

Thanks!

Mike

i just got mine. I cut a long thin PVC pipe. He isnt eating yet, but i think thats cause he's only been in there 2 days.

i've got 3 senegals right now. you would be surprised at what they can eat. mine catch live goldfish, earthworms, also they eat floating carnivore pellets, sinking shrimp pellets, anything i put in the tank. they are kept with other faster moving fish.

stick the food in front of him or give him a cave or place to hide and make sure he gets food in his cave... I was giving my slowest eater (Dalhezi) a right sized piece of shrimp in his face for a couple of weeks until he settled in...now he's fine

i always hand feed mine a piece of thawed out market shrimp. he loves it

So when you feed market shrimp, it does not have to be fresh. It can be a store bought frozen variety?

I personally use forceps. At first it may swim away, but slowly it will learn to pounch on it once it reaches the bottom
