Other than live feeder fish, what foods are suggested to offer to a Jag.
I just got approx 10" Jag few days ago. So far he takes feeder golderfish or minnows. Cannot seem to get him to go for pellets, krill or shrimp.
Wondering if he just needs some time to adjust, then he may take the other foods?

Keep trying to feed him pellets and the krill and shrimp, I have a picky jag that only likes massivore pellet and won't eat anything else but feeders and worms. I only treat him to a feeder or worm if I have a lot of people over for wow factor. And its not the healthiest thing to feed them feeders because of all the diseases they can have, unless you are breeding your own. I'd keep trying crickets, red worms and night crawlers, krill and shrimp, but see if he will eat some pellets before you toss any meaty foods in there. I've found that picky eaters will not and I mean will not take pellets after a meatier food is offered. Good Luck trying to get your big guy to eat!

Same thing I was thinking that big of a fish and it never had anything but feeders?:screwy: I'd try starving him as a last resort, but it might be the only way to get him to eat pellets. I've had to do it in the past after feeding worms or crickets to my jag, he wouldn't take pellets afterwards so he had to be starved back onto pellets for a day or two.

Just thinking that he may just be acclimating to his new home and maybe will come around. The people who had him, had no idea what they were dealing with. According to them, they have had him around 3 months and been feeding him goldfish flakes !! Believe that? I don't.
Well hoping he will adjust and be fine in the next couple of days.

just give it time to acclimate and then starve it as the others have said. I'd also try maybe something like silversides might work if it won't take krill

That's funny, my Jag doesn't like freeze-dried shrimp either. That's ok more for my Loisellei that lives with him. But he loves Hikari Cichlid Gold, baby convicts, earthworms and crickets.
