ive got a long nose gar that has been eating feeders. its not convieniant for me to go to the store every other day to get them. what else can i feed him?

you could try shrimp or smelt. how big is it? so far my longnose wont eat anything but live either.

if he is big enough then you can try the starvation method

Just like i told demjor.....if he eats earthworms then cut the head off of the earthworm and stuff pellets in the body so that way the gar gets his nutrition................and hell be tasting pellets so he has a higher chance of accepting them.

Was this related to your post saying gar have pharyngeal teeth??

Anyhow what would work best is to just persistently offer foods Be it feeders or otherwise by dropping them in the tank one at a time. get the fish used to obtaining food on the surface in a predictable manner. This always works but must be done regularly and persistently. Starving I'm sorry does not work well it is better to train the fish to feed as you want. This takes work and one needs to work on it.
