Feeding beetles?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
This is exactly what they would eat in nature - just not as a large part of their diet. Using different foods as treats is always good.

But if the fish are just small fish, they won't be able to actually ingest the beetle - if they are larger cichlids or whatnot, and can just engulf it, then yep...

if your fish are too small or you are worried about the shell you can just smash the beetle and the will tear it up just the same. i do it with small snails and the fry go nuts.

certianly dont fill them with beetles... but ya one every now and then as a treat wont hurt them. depending on the type of fish of corse

I live in the south east, and am guilty of throwing the occasional tick to a school of giant danios, they rip them to pieces like pirahnas would and devour them in seconds. The only thing I occasionally worry about is wierd parasites or disease, hence the tick goes to the danios, not any of my cichlids! I realistically do this maybe 3 or 4 times a year, at 1 tick to 7 danios, maybe I'll do it more often, serves those little bloodsuckers right!
